The Effect of Group Occupational Therapy Program on Depression and Activities of Daily Living in Hemiplegic Patients

Abstract

|
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of group occupational therapy program on depression and activities of daily living with hemiplegic patients.
Methods: 20 subjects who selected on the basis of the screening criteria were divided into the experimental group (n=10) who underwent the group occupational therapy program and occupational therapy and the control group (n=10) who underwent a general occupational therapy. Each intervention consisted of a 30-minute session a day, five times a week, for eight weeks. In order to measure functions, CES-D and MBI were used before and after the treatment intervention.
Results: We found significant differences for the CES-D, MBI between pre-test and post-test in the 2 groups. Also, CES-D and MBI were significant different between the groups at groups at post-test.
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that group occupational therapy program can be applied as a useful approach for hemiplegic patients.
